Tell all the truth but tell it slant —
Success in Circuit lies
Too bright for our infirm Delight
The Truth’s superb surprise
As Lightning to the Children eased
With explanation kind
The Truth must dazzle gradually
Or every man be blind —
This World is not Conclusion.
A Species stands beyond -Â
Invisible, as Music -
But positive, as Sound -
It beckons, and it baffles -Â
Philosophy, don’t know -Â
And through a Riddle, at the last -Â
Sagacity, must go -
To guess it, puzzles scholars -
To gain it, Men have borne
Contempt of Generations
And Crucifixion, shown -
Faith slips - and laughs, and rallies -Â
Blushes, if any see -Â
Plucks at a twig of Evidence -Â
And asks a Vane, the way -Â
Much Gesture, from the Pulpit -
Strong Hallelujahs roll -Â
Narcotics cannot still the Tooth
That nibbles at the soul –
I get it, but it took some work!
