I have often wondered why we (collectively) celebrate the death and rebirth of a new year. When I was young, it was for the social and celebrating aspect. Over time, I grew weary of the drunkenness of it. Recently, I thought that this ceremonious death and birth is our way to control the uncontrollable and mystery of our own demise.
Yes, I think that’s a great point! It’s a clean slate so to speak, a way for people to make plans and attempt to be in control of their lives. It’s illusory though, because we aren’t really in control at all. It can be a fun and inspiring thing to set resolutions/goals for the year though :)
